Mission Statement

Fri Feb 29, 2008, 8:54 AM
"To hear this history rehearsed, for that there be inserted in it no fables, shall be perhaps not delightful. But he that desires to look into the truth of things done, and which (according to the condition of humanity) may be done again, or at least their like, he shall find enough herein to make him think it profitable. And it is compiled rather for an everlasting possession, than to be rehearsed for a prize."

Thucydides, 5th Century BCE

History is the people of the present interpreting the past, or at least a version of it we agree upon. Without history and the discourse that surrounds it, planning our future would be impossible.

My mantra is the study of history. I am currently a student, an apprentice historian if you will. I am also one of a dying breed. Whilst interest in the past has never been greater, knowledge of it is greatly lacking in the western world. I have been in classes where adult Americans believed that Martin Luther King declared his dream in 1913 or justified the atomisation of 30000 people in the name of the modern concept of "national security". I have met people who will still believe that their great heroes were god-like saints, purging their nations of problems that exist today, but not in their lifetime. I have seen people who will ignore their past and their own story, purely because they perceive it as "Boring"

This is not the case

So I bring to you my interpretation of history, and I invite anyone to give me theirs so long as they are willing to debate freely. I do this in the only medium my artistically challenged and time restricted brain can handle, motivational posters. The Internet equivalent of Sound bytes, or flyers

I invite you to share the Lessons of History
